Supreme Renovation Winner

A villa in Northcote Point, remodelled by Broswick Builders, has won the Supreme Renovation award in Auckland.  Judges said the full update of the villa was so well executed it was almost impossible to tell where the old house ended and the new began.

"The builder has painstakingly sourced matching products like the timber windows, doors, flooring and mouldings. Large timber sliding doors on to flush timber decking have been beautifully installed. This is a beautiful renovation and is more than worthy of the supreme renovation award."

A work of art is how the judges at the 2017 House of the Year Awards described the Grey Lynn cottage renovated by Broswick Builders.

Old-world craftsmanship has been lost by many builders, but Todd says his guys have the skills necessary to work on older villas, and that was clearly demonstrated in this award-winning renovation.

Houzz Tour: A Californian Bungalow Revived With Love

In the 1920s, part of a kit-set bungalow was shipped from California across the Pacific to a beach side Auckland suburb, where it joined a street of similar bungalows half a block from the sea.

Ninety years later, the spacious example of Arts and Crafts was lovingly renovated by new owners who, with a team of enthusiasts, restored the old beauty to better than new.

Habitat: The Transformation of a Devonport Villa

The original house was a villa in Devonport that was stuck in a time warp. It required a full renovation and a large extension was added to create more space. The clients wanted to create a light airy home with a beachside feeling.

Another notable renovation, in Devonport, by Broswick Builders won the Bunnings Renovation $750,000 - $1.5 million category and a Gold Award.

This renovation is a fantastic integration between the old and new, along with a stunning combination of classical, chic and some industrial, which has created a wonderful family home. This home is a wonderful collaboration between builder, client, and architect.

Stuff: Renovated Devonport bathrooms hit a bright note

New bathrooms are often right at the top of the list of renovation projects. And there may well be space limitations, but that doesn't mean you have to compromise good design.

These two bathrooms, which were part of the extensive renovation of a character home in Devonport, show just what can be achieved in a small space.

Living within walking distance of two beaches in a stylish home that encapsulates the best of two eras feels like nirvana for British emigrés Ross and Emma Parker.

As serial renovators, little deters them. When they spotted this villa for sale in 2019, they were ready for a new challenge. “The house had not been touched in years; it was painted minty green, had lots of mould and the carpets were literally threadbare,” she says. Ross was pragmatic: “Villas are great if you can renovate them, but dreadful if you can’t.”
